Rock Music (2023) is a tactile sound installation in which suspended rocks are activated by human touch, movement, and impact. Hung from wire or chain and amplified with contact microphones or geophones, the rocks become crude instruments: scraping, knocking, swinging and resonating against each other or the surrounding structure. These sounds are fed into a looper and projected through speakers, gradually building into a layered composition of friction, weight, accident and repetition. The work plays on the phrase “rock music” literally, stripping it back to stone, vibration and physical force, while inviting participants to become both performers and instigators of an unstable, evolving sound field.
